STATEMENT Through its bold artistry, Blood Words fearlessly immerses viewers in an unflinching, sensual world — a visceral fusion of the sacred and the erotic, echoing the powerful allure of the Kama Sutra. But beneath this sensual tapestry lies a deeply urgent story: in a time when immigrants are destabilized and silenced, this film gives voice to a narrative too often overshadowed. Told entirely through the female gaze, Blood Words is both a cry of resistance and a hymn of reclamation — a third-culture perspective that insists on beauty, power, and belonging in a world determined to deny it. The theme of the film is rooted in my own journey as a South Asian woman and artist navigating between cultures and breaking the boundaries imposed upon me. Raised between East Africa and India, my upbringing was informed by rigid cultural constraints that suffocated my self-expression. When I followed the seduction of the West and its mirage of creative possibilities, I was confronted instead with the ignorance, mediocrity and lies that were hidden behind a facade of superficiality. I realized then that my creative cry was my weapon against all those who tried to smother and silence me. After many bloody battles where I fought against compromising my own truths, I arrived at a merging point, where both cultures meet to create a brilliant new hue of its own. This film is an emanation of those many shades. Like my past work, which won accolades at major festivals including Sundance, Toronto and Berlin International Film Festivals, Blood Words emerges directly from my lived experience - a deeply personal cry for truth, beauty and freedom. I see cinema as a lucid dream where all expressions come from an inner tapestry of knowing, feeling, sacrifice and compassion. I seek to make visible the invisible world through observing and absorbing all that is around me without any masks, pretensions, arrogance or vanity. It is the true listening of the human cry. Cinema is my blood sword through which I express and show the quivering leaf upon which sits a palace of pearls. Her feature length film, ‘A Journey Within a Journey’, premiered at the Asia society in NYC in 1999, and deservedly won the Best Script and Narration award at the International Film Festival in Portugal and the Director’s Citation Award at the Black Maria Film Festival.She has also coined the phrase ‘Cinepoem’, of which her current feature length film - ‘Blood Words’ (currently in preproduction) - is a direct result. The odyssey you are embarking on by reading Blood Words is one that Homer could never even imagine.&nbsp; Blood Words is a language, a song sung in the forest of a thousand ancient wolf women ancestors and the divine mythology of Hindu gods and goddess.&nbsp; Marion Woodman, a writer for Nancy Qualls-Corbett and The Sacred Prostitute Eternal Aspect of the Feminine asks the crucial question of “what is it in me that is drawn to the sacred prostitute?” The sacred prostitute, which you will learn about throughout the journey, is one who knows themselves inside and out, one whose spirit and sexuality is intertwined with every essence of their aura. Essentially Woodman is asking what is it in me that is drawn towards the idea of being whole. What will make me whole? What will make me rejoice in my own confidences and solitude and bring back my child’s gaze? What will let me slip in and out of the worlds and make unearthly apparition seem real, realer than the real world? Blood Words is the answer. It is the walk of the sacred prostitute. The bloody words on these pages remind us that our spirituality and sexuality are not separate, but bound together creating the wholeness in us which is our soul. We are given a rebirth to our soul again. It seems like a very simple idea, of course everything that makes up me are one, but this in fact is not how most approach their life and their soul. Instead, we separate and compartmentalize and forget to see the wings on our back that have always been there. Blood Words is a perspective, a contradiction, a human spirit pulsating and breathing through these words. Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry can be compared to Blood Words as an example of what you are about to embark on.
