Manoshi Chitra Neogy
FILMMAKER, DIRECTOR, POET, PERFORMER, PROFESSOR, AUTHOR MANOSHI CHITRA NEOGY IS A WILDLY TALENTED AND COMPLEX ARTIST, DETERMINED TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE OF ARTISTIC EXPRESSION. HER WORK HAS BEEN CREATED AND SHARED ALL AROUND THE GLOBE, AND HAS LED TO COUNTLESS AWARDS AND ACCOLADES THROUGHOUT HER CAREER.
She had produced several documentaries and commercials, relating to self-expression, cultural issues, and art forms, which have aired around the world. In 1988, her film entitled woman-self received best rendition of poetry in motion on film at the south Asian film festival in New York City and best director at the vision festival in Colorado. One of her last films, journey within a journey, premiered at the Asia society in NYC in 1999 and deservedly one the best script and narration award at the international film festival in Portugal and the director’s citation award at the Black Maria film festival. Neogy is also an acclaimed poet who seamlessly and powerfully melds vision, poetry, and word art resulting in an alternative, thought-provoking art form, dream streams-falling moon in silken waves, a sensual and poetic journey bridging ancient worlds with our multicultural worlds, was performed throughout the USA and in Paris, France. Currently an adjunct professor of film at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Neogy teaches cutting edge courses such as “film as a transformative process”,” the architecture of dreams,” and an intermediate experimental workshop. She has also taught experimental film courses and workshops at Sarah Lawrence College, Yale college and a visiting artist at Baruch, Pratt and Brooklyn College. Neogy’s work is inspired by many art forms. In turn, art is transformed by her spirit. Her professional experiences – such as working alongside the world renowned film maker, Werner Herzog – intertwined with her personal spiritual journey through this lifetime have created an incredible human being with a hunger to challenge the status quo. She is indeed braving a new world and more than ready to change the world of cinema.
PROFESSOR – NYU, TISCH SCHOOL OF FILM Manoshi Chitra Neogy is a filmmaker, director, poet, actress, professor and author. She is a wildly talented and complex artist, determined to push the envelope of artistic expression. She has worked nationally and internationally directing numerous documentaries and short films which have led to countless awards and accolades. ‘Woman-Self’, a thirty minute film received awards such as best rendition of poetry in motion and for best director at the South Asian film festival in NYC, Festival of Vision in Colorado, Women’s film festival in France and The international short film festival in Montreal, Canada. It also won the director’s Citation award at the Black Maria film festival. Also an acclaimed and published poet she seamlessly and powerfully melds vision, poetry and word-art resulting in an alternative, thought provoking art form. She has also coined the phrase ‘Cinepoem’, of which her current feature length film, Sand Shades, currently in preproduction, is a direct result. Currently, an adjunct professor of film at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Neogy teaches cutting-edge, non-traditional courses such as ‘Film as a Transformative Process’ for Special Programs and the undergraduate film dept at the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and TV.
Journey Within A Journey
One of her last films, Journey Within A Journey, premiered at the Asia Society in New York City in 1999 and deservedly won the Best Script & Narration Award at the International Film Festival in Portugal as well as the Director’s Citation Award at the Black Maria Film Festival in New Jersey. Journey is a full length feature film about life, death, and transformation, filmed entirely in Kerala, India. Neogy’s personal quest to seek understanding and renewal resulted in a film that magically transports her audience to the ancient truths of her homeland.
